Clare Island Film Festival This Weekend

Full steam ahead for Island Film Festival!

All aboard for this fourth edition of the Clare Island Film Festival which takes place from September 16th to 18th

Events kick off on Culture Night Friday 16th September with the festival opening and screening of the award winning Irish documentary "ATLANTIC" at 8pm in the Community Centre.

Atlantic follows the fortunes of three small fishing communities - in Ireland, Norway and Newfoundland - bringing to the fore three very intimate stories from the global resource debate.

Inaugural Film Mayo Tyrone Guthrie Bursary Announced

Film Mayo is offering its inaugural bursary award to filmmakers born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Applicants should show significant achievement in their field or demonstrate a high degree of promise .

Ballinrobe featured in RTÉ One's Find Me A Home

Episode 2 of RTÉ One property series Find Me A Home features a retired mid-wife Cliona who sells up in Greystones and moves to Ballinrobe in Mayo. She sells her house to be release funds to help her daughter buy a house also.  The episode will broadcast on Thursday 8th September, 8.30pm on RTÉ One.

Galway Film Centre requires a part-time Technical Coordinator

Galway Film Centre is a resource organisation for filmmakers and administers the UNESCO City of Film designation in partnership with Galway City & County Councils.

Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years experience as a technician. Galway Film Centre run a large number of varied technical courses and this role involves coordinating all technical aspects of these courses.

Roundtable for Artists, Makers, Creatives’ with Michael Atavar, Mayo Ideas Week Event in Ballina, 28th Sept.

This special Mayo Ideas Week session is an initiative of Mayo County Council Arts Office and Inspiration Station and will take place in The Kennedy Glasgow Centre, The Quay, Ballina from 10.00 to 1.00 on Wednesday 28th September.  This session will be of particular interest to artists, architects, designers, craft artists and anyone who is engaged in creative production, but it is open to everyone to attend.

The Fireman and the Nurse, short film shot in Mayo

Shot on location in Killala , Co Mayo.The Fireman and the Nurse will play the 7th Underground Film Festival which takes place in Dublin  (9th  - 11th Sep).

Teenage nights can change lives forever. It's 1994 and Anna and Paul lock eyes and lips at their local school disco but it is a long way from then to the day-to-day of a suburban marriage. Twenty years later they seek some assistance to save their crumbling marriage and it leads them to play roles they had long dreamed of.

Underground Films Knock Documentary in cinemas August 26th

New Irish feature documentary from Underground Films, Strange Occurrences in a small Irish village to open in Irish cinemas Friday, August 26th

An examination of the phenomenon of the Knock shrine, the film comes from the filmmakers behind award-winning One Million Dubliners.

In August 1879 fifteen people in the small village of Knock, Co Mayo, claimed to witness an apparition of the Virgin Mary.  After two official inquiries, the village was declared a Marian Shrine. Today, Knock’s 2,000 residents welcome over one million pilgrims annually.
