Workshop for Directors and Actors with Paul Mercier

Tutored by director, Paul Mercier, this 2 day practical workshop will guide directors and actors on how to work a scene together. The participants will get an insight into how to approach the scene from script to rehearsal and going for a take. The workshop will provide an understanding to directors and actors of the different challenges facing them when working on a scene. It will also give insights on how actors and directors can collaborate together to get the most out of their work. Over the 2 days, participants will workshop different scenes together and compare and contrast the different approaches.

Paul Mercier is an Irish Director & Writer, who has worked in film, TV and theatre. His feature, Pursuit, which is a modern take on the legend of Diarmuid and GrĂ¡inne, premiered at Galway Film Fleadh 2015 and the cast includes Ruth Bradley and Liam Cunningham. He directed the hit Irish-language teenage series Aifric for TG4 and also the feature, Studs, with David Wilmot, Liam Carney and Brendan Gleeson. He is a founding member and artistic director of the Passion Machine theatre company and his plays have received numerous awards such as the Harvey’s Irish Theatre Award for Best New Irish Work, The Sunday Independent Arts Award, The Sunday Tribune Arts Award, The Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, and an Edinburgh Fringe First Award.
